Hosted Reception remarks from Jordan Schnitzer and Bruce Guenther, OJMCHE Adjunct Curator for Special Exhibitions at 6pm.
Turning Inward, JUDY CHICAGO, Works from the Collections of Jordan Schnitzer and His Family Foundation, traces Judy Chicago’s development as an artist and Jewish woman across six decades, from her early formal vocabulary of geometric color abstraction and Land Art pyrotechnic installations to the powerful explorations of self-identity, politics of gender, and her personal formative experiences. Curated by Bruce Guenther, OJMCHE Adjunct Curator for Special Exhibitions, and drawn from work in the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation Collection, this exhibition primarily focuses on works on paper, including preliminary sketches of her seminal work, The Dinner Party, 1979. The exhibition also includes a stained-glass panel from Chicago’s Holocaust Project, 1984-1993, a cast glass piece, Grand Flaming Fist, 2007, and photographic prints of Chicago’s Land Art pyrotechnic installations.
