Learn more about how high school students are becoming part of OJMCHE’s educational outreach. This past year OJMCHE initiated a Student Educator Internship program and trained 12 students to be floating “ask me” docents—people who are available in our core exhibitions to answer questions and offer additional insights. Two of this year’s docents are going to talk about their experience of learning and sharing about the Holocaust, the history of Jews in Oregon, and discrimination and resistance in the region. The museum is increasing our engagement with students through volunteer opportunities and we invite you to join us to hear from these young leaders.
Rebecca Auerbac is a rising senior at St. Mary’s Academy where her current favorite class is American History. She is a dancer at Northwest Dance Project where she studies contemporary dance, ballet, and choreography. She is also an assistant-editor of Escribe Maria, the literary and art magazine at St. Mary’s. As a student educator at OJMCHE she works as an ask me docent on the weekends and is trained to lead tours. She has really enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about Portland’s history and to connect more with her Jewish heritage while volunteering at the OJMCHE.
Annie Bragdon is a rising senior at St. Mary’s Academy where she prefers to study the humanities and is involved in a grant-making program. Annie has been a Student Educator Intern at OJMCHE since the beginning of 2019 and is trained as a tour guide and an “ask me” docent. Annie is a certified florist who is currently pursuing an advanced certification and loves floral design. In her free time, Annie enjoys research, reading, tea, and being with animals.
