Join us in person or via Zoom for a stimulating discussion focused on the legacy of Judy Chicago, a pioneering feminist Jewish artist who continues to make politically engaged art. Panelists include artists Sarah Horowitz and Shelley Jordon and art historian Sarah Diver, each of whom bring a uniquely political and cultural perspective to the conversation. This program is in conjunction with OJMCHE’s current exhibition, Turning Inward, Judy Chicago, From the Collection of Jordan Schnitzer and His Family Foundation.

Sarah Diver is a writer and curator based in Portland, Oregon and currently serves as the Director of Research and Engagement for the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation. Her critical writing has been published by Variable West, the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation, Portland State University, Denny Dimin Gallery, International Print Center New York, and Storm King Art Center. Previously, Diver completed her graduate studies at Columbia University with an emphasis in modern and contemporary art and curatorial studies in 2016.
Shelley Jordon is a Portland-based painter and moving-image artist who explores interior and exterior worlds and connections between past and present experiences. Using traditional drawing and painting media applied to two-dimensional artwork, animation, and installation she expresses the complex nature of memory; physical and emotional, collective and personal. Solo exhibitions include the Wexner Center for the Arts, Ildiko Butler Gallery at Fordham Lincoln Center, Oregon Jewish Museum, Maine Jewish Museum, and the Frye Museum. Her work has been exhibited at the Portland Art Museum, Tacoma Art Museum, Portland Museum of Art, Torrance Art Museum and at international venues in Italy, Spain, Israel, Great Britain, Australia, and Germany. Jordon holds an MFA from Brooklyn College of the City of New York, a BFA from The School of Visual Arts in NYC, and is a Professor Emerita of Art at Oregon State University. https://www.shelleyjordon.com/
Sarah Horowitz lives at the base of the eastern Cascade Mountains in Leavenworth, Washington where she has her printmaking studio. She previously lived in Portland, Oregon where she was a member of Atelier Mars printmaking studio for fifteen years, and worked as a printmaking and drawing instructor at Portland State University for seven years. Horowitz creates prints, drawings, and produces hand printed and bound artist’s books under her imprint Wiesedruck. Her work focuses on Swiss and Ashkenazi Jewish family history and the natural world, with an emphasis on the ephemeral and memory. Horowitz recently attended residencies at the Oak Spring Garden Foundation in Upperville, Virginia, at ArtBellwald in Bellwald, Switzerland, and participated in the Icicle Fund Conservation/History/Art residency in Washington State. https://www.sarahhorowitzartist.com/
